Charlie Parker along with Dizzy Gillespie and Bud Powell, is considered one of the true founders of bebop. Charlie Parker was an intuitive player who could truly express himself through his music. Rather than basing his improvisations based on the melody which was typical with swing music, he was a master of chordal improvisation, creating new melodic lines that were based on the elemental structure of a song. Charlie Parker, "The Bird" wrote several standards that were waaaaay ahead of their time (such as "Anthropology," "Ornithology," "Scrapple from the Apple," and "Ko Ko," along with such blues numbers as "Now's the Time" and "Parker's Mood"). Parker's technique, original sound, and ability to come up with harmonically advanced phrases that could be both logical and whimsical were highly influential. By the 50's, it was unheard of to play "modern jazz" with owing ones chops to Charlie Parker.
Charles Parker, Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955), famously called Bird, or Yardbird[2] was an American jazz saxophonist and composer.
